Bedford County Natural Heritage Inventory

April 7, 2021

Update of Natural Heritage Areas for Ten Southwest Pennsylvania Counties

PNHP is excited to announce the completion of comprehensive updates to the County Natural Heritage Inventories for Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Lawrence, Washington, and Westmoreland Counties! For some of these counties, this is the first time inventories have been fully updated in over 25 years. This project included two years of fieldwork across the southwest, as well as the mapping of a total of 643 new Natural Heritage Areas, with accompanying written site accounts for each site. This data is now available to the public through our website and Pennsylvania Conservation Explorer, for viewing and downloading. This ambitious project, the largest inventory update to date for PNHP, was made possible in part by a C2P2 grant to the Southwest Pennsylvania Commission, as well as the efforts of a great many PNHP staff members.

Access the new inventory reports here, and find the new spatial data on the Pennsylvania Conservation Explorer here.
